Melissani Cave is an underground lake located on the island of Kefalonia, Greece. On a recent cruise of the Greek Islands I was lucky enough to visit this amazing lake where the water is so clear that it makes the boats look like they are floating on air. After a short bus ride up to the mountains of this beautiful island we arrived to a lush forest. We trekked down stone steps through an underground tunnel to the mouth of a lake surrounded by trees that opened up to the sky above. Visitors have to explore the lake with a boat and a guide. This attraction is a must-see unique natural work of art sculptured by stalactites and crystal blue-green water.

If you stop here on a cruise do not miss this mythical cave that was discovered in 1951 when its roof caved in revealing an amazing sight.
